PROJECT BACKGROUND
This landscape project aims to connect the relationship between people and water on the both sides of the promenade so that more people can be hydrophilic with water. In other words, people can interact with water in the waterfront.Water features can exert an influence on human's well-being on both physical and mental health. The two areas, Aberdeen and Ap Lei Chau, are interlinked, but they are separated by river. Therefore, if the two areas are 'zipped', they can be opened to the public. Therefore, the concept of the design is zipper (just like the virtual zipped up). Since Hong Kong is lack of hydrophilic design which possibly can help people to relax, the design proposed can create a new bridge to connect other hydrophilic facilities.
PROJECT CONCEPT
The zipper consists of three parts: cloth, chain elements and sliders. The cloth represents the soft landscape of the entire coast, while the chain elements represents the hard landscape that can be used as the front. It is hoped that the visitors can have a different experience in this unique area. Moreover, a water taxi sightseeing journey is planned which will cover a route from the ocean park to experience water features in Ap Lei Chau and Aberdeen. This can improve the accessibility for people to travel to different places and to provide an accessible journey for visitors from the water features to a more naturalistic landscape in Hong Kong.
