PROJECT BACKGROUND
The Virtual Idol Project team is formed by nine students from the Animation and Visual Effects, Costume Design for Performance, Digital Music and Media and Transmedia programmes.
By utilising knowledge and skills in the various activities, these students are developing two home-grown virtual idols for HKDI from the production of storylines, characters, costumes, music to online promotion and publicity.
Two virtual idols are currently in development: Alyn (male) and Alina (female) with robot pet named Delta to promote Hong Kong culture and our youth’s passion in developing their design career.
PROJECT CONCEPT
Our team hopes to use virtual idols to invoke the senses of the audience and deliver positive messages.
According to statistics, nearly 60% of secondary school students in Hong Kong feel hopeless and have no plans for life. We aim to encourage teenagers to establish positive values and attitudes towards life and raise their adversity quotient (AQ). Based on the data collected from research, five key areas were identified for the development of the virtual idols – story, characters, costume, music and promotion.
The virtual heroine is based on secondary school students in Hong Kong. In the story, the boy changed the girl for the better. The boy acts as a distributor of positive energy and inspiration of life who encourages teenagers to take their first step to change themselves.
