Miffy Fashion Design Project
PROJECT BACKGROUND
On the occasion of Miffy's 65th birthday, the Centraal Museum Utrecht in The Netherlands presented Miffy in 86 new outfits, designed by international fashion students from Nottingham, Hong Kong, Milan, Mexico, and The Netherlands. The Miffy Fashion Design Project, organised by Mercis bv, started in September 2019, became the foundation of this Exhibition aiming to share Dick Bruna's love for the creative process and to give young designers a platform to share their own unique perspectives. The work was judged by renowned art and design academics from five countries and regions, including HKSAR. The outcome of the competition saw the international students being strongly inspired by Dick Bruna's work, his philosophy and design principles.
PROJECT CONCEPT
Two regional winners were selected to representing Hong Kong; both from Department of Fashion and Image Design. Tse Hoi Yin design concept was inspired by Tang Dynasty costume, while Wong Chun Lam design was inspired by the movie “2001: A Space Odyssey”. The ten best designs were selected out of the 86 finalists where they will be rewarded with an official execution of their designs at the end of 2020. All Miffy’s new outfits were showcased in Centraal Museum Utrecht from 20th June to 20th September 2020.
