Global Design Camp
Prepares students for a global future
On 15-19 July 2019, 14 HKDI students from various design disciplines joined hands with students of Manchester School of Art at Metropolitan University (MMU) for a 5-day intensive workshop to propose creative solutions for their “Ideal City" at the Global Design Camp. The aim of this innovative project is for design students to build and develop the skills they will need for future economies—the ability to solve complex problems, to think critically, creatively and to collaborate across cultures. International student design teams were formed according to five ‘challenge’ areas, namely Health, Places, Food, Work and Networks, to research, ideate, design and test their ideas, receiving feedback from industry experts to help them shape their solutions.
A pop-up exhibition featuring "The Ideal City" created by students of HKDI and MMU during the Global Design Camp was showcased at The Great Debate and Liveable City Conference, as part of Design Manchester Festival in November 2019, as well as DesignInspire Expo in Hong Kong in December 2019.
